Look Out, Here Comes 2014

Hello you

Well 2013 certainly had some moments, good and bad. The good include my BBC 3 Counties Radio Show going from strength to strength. Listener figures were up and the podcast has been an internet sensation. Thanks to everyone who listened and who downloads it. If you want to find out more about the show you can click HERE

You can download the podcasts from either the BBC WEBSITE or of course from iTunes. For some strange reason they are only online for 30 days, so, you know, grab them while they are hot.

I was also lucky enough to win the Nick Clarke Award for best broadcast interview of 2013. I was up against some incredible competition including Krishnan Guru-Murphy and Victoria Derybshire, so it was a real honour to come first.

Workwise, 2014 is looking very busy. For the first time in a long time I am having to turn work down. Breakfast on 3CR is continuing – weekday mornings 6 until 9. I am spoilt by having the most awesome team to work with in the mornings. Producer Katherine Boyle is a genius, political reporter Paul Scoins is hilarious, J-Dog Dealey is a one man broadcasting machine and Kelly Betts is a girl. Together we own radio. We’ve got some good bits up our sleeve already planned so keep listening.

I’m very excited as well to be hosting Saturday mornings 9-12 on BBC West Midlands on a permanent basis. No podcast I’m afraid but you can listen live and to old episodes HERE. It’s a bit slower than the 3CR show is as much as the callers get longer to chat. I’m dead chuffed to be working for two BBC stations doing completely different shows.

I’ve also been promoted in the world of Big Brother. I am now hosting along side the mighty Rylan on the Saturday evening spin off show Big Brother’s Bit On The Psych. I can’t tell you how excited I am to be hosting y first studio based show in about 10 years. The whole team is lovely and this series should be a corker. My first episode is Saturday January 4th. Here are three videos I filmed in advance of the series starting.

Ooh yeah, I am getting my first ever music article published in a proper magazine! It is of course about The Monkees and is for the excellent Shindig! Magazine. I thoroughly recommend you old heads and fans of good music rush out and buy it.

I’m also carrying on with my regular online column about the best and worst bits of the internet. Your help is vital in this so have a look HERE at some old ones and then post any suggestions you may have on my FB page www.facebook.com/iainleeofficial

Sky News has been wonderful to me and I shall be popping up there quite a few Sunday mornings to review the papers. It’s at the jolly times of 6.40, 7.40 and 8.40! What’s a lie in?

I’m also going to be on the London edition of Inside Out. I have one piece already filmed about taxidermy. Trust me, it works.

What else? Oh yes, in March I am travelling to New York in America to attend the 2014 Monkees Convention. I am not only screening some rare Monkees videos from my collection, but I shall also be filming a documentary about fandom and just how obsessed some fans can be. If you’re going and fancy being in the film, then do please email admin@monkeebootlegs.com and also check out the Monkees FB page I run www.facebook.com/monkeesbootlegs

There was going to be a live show this year, I had even booked a venue in Croydon for March 8th, but I bottled it and cancelled it. It isn’t a Set The Agenda, it was just a one man show, what would have been my first, but then, well, you know, I got scared. I THINK it’s a good idea, I just don’t know for sure. And also, I feel too old to be putting myself through that stress. Who knows, maybe.

And as you have been so lovely, here is a little bonus. A rerelease of the Pocket Radio Show interview I conducted with songwriter Bobby Hart.

Mr Lee, sir, it is so good to hear that things are going good for you. I am real happy :) The Monkees convention sounds amazing, looking forward to watching your film on fandom.

As for your show that you cancelled, I think you doing stand-up again would be superb. It’s just the fear talking. Ignore the fear and it will all be alright :)

That’s great Iain, as a long time fan of your shows I know you had some big ups and downs over the years and almost gave up the whole performance lark to go into teaching. Well after all this time it’s very nice to see that some decision makers in the media have finally taken notice and you are getting some of the well deserved spoils for all the hard work. Love the 3cr shows, I particularly loved that award getting interview. I think the fella thought he would have an easy ride on what he obviously assumed was just a goofy, light weight show, but boy, you nailed him down good. Nice work. Anyhow enouigh of this praise stuff, looking forward to another year of your stuff, Thanks And UP YOURS! (PEACE & LOVE FOR 2014. : )

Ok, I’ve ordered another pair of ears from Brazil and have imported 200 hours from 2015. I’ll deal with 2015 in 2015.

It’s great to see you go from strength to strength and get taken seriously within the industry – you’ve been a fan favourite for many years :D
Thanks to the 3CR podcasts, I’ve been able to keep up as a podcast person, and will definitely be putting up with big brother just to see you on the box!
