The Rabbit Hole Tour

By | News, Podcasts, The Rabbit Hole | No Comments

The Rabbit Hole is a wonderfully silly (sometimes serious) podcast I record with Katherine Boyle. It’s a live pre-recorded phone in show taped in front of a mostly live audience. We are now on tour, taking the show all over the place. This means we have only ONE London show this year, and it’s soon! So if you want to come to it, get tickets soon. Also, apart from London, all the venues are really small, holding maybe 50 or 60, so if you’re thinking of coming, please get tickets soon!

17th September – OUR ONLY LONDON SHOW! Kings Place http://www.kingsplace.co.uk/whats-on/comedy/iain-lee-katherine-boyle-present-the-rabbit-hole#.WZcrP63MyRt

1st October – Scunthorpe – do we even have an audience in Scunthorpe? I hope so! Get your tickets here http://www.seetickets.com/event/mouth-mag-iain-lee-kath-boyle-the-rabbit-hole/cafe-indiependent/1130119

14th October – Caroline of Brunswick in Brighton – This has almost sold out so get your tickets sharpish http://www.wegottickets.com/event/410867

29th October – Kardomah 94 – Hull – at last, we come to Hull! Please support us and come along! https://www.hullboxoffice.com/events/the-rabbit-hole-with-iain-lee-and-katherine-boyle

We’ve also got our first show in Belfast happening in January of next year and we should be part of the Wolverhampton comedy festival in November 2017.

The Door Into Summer episode 3

By | News, Podcasts | No Comments

Exciting news. I have TWO new music shows! I’ll be hosting Sunday mornings on Virgin between 10pm and 1am starting July 9th and I could not be more excited! But I also do a home brew music show in my spare room once a week where I get to choose all the songs. The Door Into Summer gets its name from a Monkees song but I promise you, it’s not too Monkees heavy. I just sit at my desk and flick through my MP3’s. I was going to be a purist and use only CD’s and vinyl, but is actually a faff, so for now, it is all digital. I do have about 40,000 songs on my Mac, so it’s some task. One song begets the next which fires off a spark in my head taking us neatly to the third and so on for about an hour each week. I get nothing from it but the thrill of sharing good music.

You can get them all at www.mixcloud.com/iainlee and episode 3 is available HERE!

What a difference a day makes….

By | Podcasts, The Rabbit Hole | One Comment

…so Sunday afternoon I was thinking about knocking The Rabbit Hole on the head. It was a lot of work, we’d under recorded in the past, maybe it had had it’s very brief day. Then, Sunday evening, we recorded over 2 hours of actual proper real gold. It was one of those evenings where everything just worked! Technically it was superb. People called in. We had some delicious answerphone messages, and a live audience that wanted to play. Highlights were the call from a new dad who’d been given the number by his mate and Mrs Mu’s Mum replacing Katherine for an hilarious 20 minutes.

The next day, we were offered a chance to appear at the Manchester Fringe in the summer (details to follow). A few more days later and we are invited to appear at both Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Katherine and I are both buoyed by the success of Sunday and really proud of the next 4 shows you lot have got coming towards you. Looks like there’s life in the old rabbit yet.

We won’t be appearing in London until later in the year and the only show that we have onside is Manchester on Saturday May 6th. There are about 14 tickets left so grab them while you still can from www.ticketsource.co.uk/iain-lee . Fingers crossed we can keep weaving gold out of thin air for a while to come yet!

Rabbit Hole The Fourth!

Ah man, if you came to the recording on Sunday 19th Feb then you have the patience of a saint. It was a tough start to the evening as we were beset with technical problems. I was hearing a BUZZ through the headphones and I really think it would have ruined the recordings. It took about 35 minutes to get it sorted and it was very hot so Katherine and I just wanted to say thank you so much for sticking with us. We really appreciate it. I hope the ukulele playing wasn’t too bad.

It meant, in my humble opinion, that the shows got off to a slow start. If I’m swearing, that means I’m struggling. And I swore a lot. But, we did eventually get moving and get into some sort of gear. Caller were a little thin on the ground, and I need to find a way to encourage more random calls but we did have a very vocal and, let be honest, grumpy Australian and now we all know why Zack is a prick.

The download figures are growing, almost up to the levels of the talkRADIO show which is great, and we’ve sold a few T-shirts and totes so it’s all groovy. Please do subscribe (and unsubscribe then subscribe again) on iTunes but we are on nearly all podcast providers. To make it easy, I’m leaving it at the bottom of this page as well.

Don’t forget, next record is Sunday March 26th in London and then our first show outside of London in Manchester at the Three Minute Theatre in Oldham Street on Saturday May 6th. We really hope you can make it. If you want to buy tickets then just click this link www.ticketsource.co.uk/iain-lee

Please do share the pods with as many people as you can and also pass on the phone number 0203 286 6370 or Skype HeyRabbitHoleShow. You can call any time and leave messages.

Peace and indeed love!

The Rabbit Hole Episode 2 – Wangers

By | News, Podcasts, The Rabbit Hole | No Comments

A world first! Unique! A pre-recorded phone in show captured live in front of a studio audience!

Episode 2 of mine and Katherine Boyle’s show is a little rude. We honestly don’t want it to be rude but sex sells. So, we went a bit blue, something for the dads. But we’ll try and make them cleaner in the future. Still, it’s very, very funny.

Don’t forget, we will be uploading a new episode of The Rabbit Hole every Thursday. So subscribe to it to make sure you don’t miss out.

You can subscribe to it on iTunes (ratings and reviews help and we will give away a t shirt at every recording session to the best review) https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-rabbit-hole/id1197873408?mt=2

Or, you can listen here. Please share with anyone who may like this! Thanks.

Ooh, still a few tickets left for the recording on Sunday February 19th and more than a few for the recording on Sunday March 26th! www.ticketsource.co.uk/iain-lee

The Rabbit Hole Episode 1 – Doors

By | News, Podcasts, The Rabbit Hole | No Comments

Last Sunday, Katherine and I sat on a tiny stage in front of 100 people and recorded two episodes of our brand new show The Rabbit Hole. We weren’t sure what would happen. Would people laugh? Would you call in? Would we look stupid?

The answer to all 3 of those questions was yes.

Basically, it worked. We chatted, the audience joined in and people called .The tricky bit was how would Kath cut it down to 2 x 30 minute episodes?

We are trying to keep this separate from the talkRADIO shows so you may notice any reference to our day jobs excised. No ‘Hip, hip, hip’s’. No ‘What kind of cake’. All of that stuff went. We love that you love that but we want The Rabbit Hole to stand on it’s own 2 feet.

The plan is to record 2 shows every month and release 1 full show every fortnight. We want to bring out SOMETHING in the other weeks, but we don’t know what yet. Any suggestions? You can of course take part ANY TIME YOU WANT as we need answer phone messages. Why don’t you call NOW? The number is 0203 286 6370 or Skype HeyRabbitHoleShow. The answerphone is always on so please feel free to call any time, day or night. Also, we want to encourage as many randoms as possible to ring us, so do feel free to share the number with friends, enemies, forums, websites, toilet walls…

Next show is being recorded on Sunday February 19th. You can get tickets here www.ticketsource.co.uk/iain-lee

You can get the podcast on a variety of platforms. Pocketcast certainly has it, and here is the iTunes link if you want to grab it from there https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-rabbit-hole/id1197873408?mt=2 If you do get it from iTunes, please leave reviews and 5 star ratings and SUBSCRIBE. It only takes a moment and really helps push us up the charts and make us visible to more people.

The RSS feed is here for people who find that important http://rss.acast.com/therabbithole

Failing that, the pod is here.

Thanks for listening.

The Rabbit Hole gets closer…

By | News, Podcasts, The Rabbit Hole | No Comments

We are recording the first full Rabbit Hole show this Sunday! You can call in live between 7.30-8.30pm and 9pm-10pm Sunday 29th January. Either dial 0203 286 6370 or Skype HeyRabbitHoleShow

Heck, you can even call those numbers now and leave a message.

This is a real punt. Will anyone call in live or will we be sat there in front of an audience of 150 with egg on our face? That’s up to you.

Mike Love

By | News, Podcasts, talkRADIO | No Comments

I am a huge Beach Boys fan. Easily one of the greatest groups of all time. I’ve been lucky enough to interview Brian a couple of times. Once he was disinterested and giving one word answers, while the first time he was engaged, honest and quite rude about Al Jardine! This goes against one school of thought that says Brian is ALWAYS polite in interviews (sorry Smilers, it simply aint true). Anyway, both times were a huge thrill and I was dead happy.

I’ve been trying for ages to get an interview with Mike Love, the lead singer and lead lyricist of the Boys for quite some time but he has always proved elusive. I met him briefly backstage at the Royal Albert Hall, and he couldn’t have been nicer. I was inspired to write an article for Record Collector magazine suggesting that popular folklore had got it wrong and that Mike wasn’t the villain in the BB story. So many people seem to hate him and raise Brian to a saintlike status. Both are human. Both are flawed. Both have made mistakes. Both have also contributed to my life in immeasurable ways with their music and lyrics. I am deeply grateful to both men.

Mike has a book out and it’s a cracking read. Because of this, I was able to get him to call my show one evening and chat to me for almost half an hour. Sure, he told a couple of old stories, and no one in the UK knows what Full House is or what a John Stamos does, but, but, but….I think I managed to get him to answer a few new questions that he hadn’t been asked before. Come on, how many times in an interview has he been asked if it’s true he taught Dennis Wilson about cunnilingus?

I enjoyed it, and I think he did too. I had so many people get in touch afterwards saying it totally changed their opinion of him. Hey, he’s messed up but who hasn’t? He’s been in showbiz for over 50 years, so of course so it would be impossible for him not to have made some missteps. Give My Regards to Broad Street and Press To Play are two examples of McCartney getting it wrong.

Here’s the interview. If you enjoyed it, please do subscribe to my podcast on iTunes by clicking on this link https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/late-nights-with-iain-lee/id1090367473?mt=2 or searching your usual podcast provider.

The Delightful Scroobius Pip

By | Podcasts, talkRADIO | One Comment

I’ve been aware of Scroobius Pip for a while. I first heard his music when Russell Brand picked one of his songs on Desert Island Discs. Thou Shalt Always Kill is absolutely brilliant. Musically excellent and packed full of ‘jokes’ but it’s not a comedy song, it’s much much more than that. Gets you finking as well, which is a novelty in itself in not just music but culture as a whole.

I’d seen him win an award at the Radio Academy a few years back, the same year my team and I won Best Breakfast Show for the BBC 3CR show. I was thrilled when I discovered he followed me on Twitter, but I still didn’t know much about him. I knew his podcast was good, because people who’s opinions I really rated said it was good, but I didn’t listen because I don’t really listen to podcasts.

I decided to buy his book Distraction Pieces (which you can get HERE)and was so pleased I did. It is absolutely inspirational, not at all preachy, and bloody enjoyable. I devoured it in 2 days.

People had suggested I ask Pip to come on the show but I HATE asking people directly, especially in a public forum like Twitter. What if they say no? What if they feel pressured to come on because I’ve asked them publicly? What if they think I’m shit? Genuinely, I have all of these negative thoughts and more. Anyways, I did ask him and he was incredibly gracious in accepting.

He came on my show last night and we got on so well. He’s lovely, taller than me, hilarious, charming, warm and sympathetic. If you’re a friend of his, you are a very lucky person indeed. I could listen to him for hours. He’s invited me onto his Distraction Pieces podcast (which I have started listening to and you can subscribe to by clicking this link https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/distraction-pieces-podcast/id929136539?mt=2 )

Click the player below to hear the hour of my show with Pip. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed hosting it. If you want to subscribe and leave nice comments (it all helps) please click this link here https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/late-nights-with-iain-lee/id1090367473?mt=2 Thanks for listening, I really do appreciate your company.
